Find Description

Items may be un-associated to religious activity. They were not located close together. Both were placed in the canal near the end of the jetty walk. The Eshu was found upside down, it was made with a hollow space inside that has organic material within it, including a small bird skull. Its surface is adorned with cowrie shells and a stone iron nail. There is also a depression in the cement that appears to have once held another item.
Found by park staff during the annual Canal Clean-up campaign. The date the items were placed in the water is unknown, but marine growth suggests it was some time ago and may have been at the same time as the June 8, 2011 discovery; they were in approximately the same place and are of similar design.
The holy water receptacle was discarded after photographing, and the Eshu is archived at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center.
